Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Florida to experience our world-class beaches and sunshine.
However, in a state full of theme parks and alligators, few realize that the very sun that drew them here is also likely the most dangerous thing they will encounter during their stay at one of the Treasure Island Florida hotels.
Here at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina, our guest service doesn’t stop at the front desk. Instead, we want to make sure you have the best stay possible and know that, in order to do so, you must be taking care of yourself under the hot Florida sun.
Keep reading to remind yourself some helpful tips to stay safe and healthy while making the most of your stay at hotels in Treasure Island, Florida.
Plan time in the Shade
Perhaps the most intuitive way to avoid sunburns or the more severe long-term effects of sun exposure is to avoid it.
However, being outside and enjoying the sun is one of the best things to do on Treasure Island so for most, simply avoiding it is not an option.
Instead, schedule break times from the sun to ensure you are giving your skin a break.
The UV light is the most intense from 10 am – 4 pm so spending some time inside or in the shade during these hours is a great way to pace yourself in terms of sun exposure.
Know your Sunscreen and Apply Regularly
One of the biggest mistakes with sunscreen is that people forget to regularly reapply.
For best practice, you should apply your sunscreen thirty minutes before exposure so it has time to absorb into your skin and plan on reapplying at regular intervals. Additionally, be sure that your sunscreen isn’t expired, become familiar with SPF ratings, and understand the water resistant of your particular lotion.
Finally, generously apply it on all parts of your body that will be exposed to the sun – keeping in mind that most clothing will not block all harmful UV light!
Don’t forget to Protect your Eyes
Many visitors will remember to apply sunscreen but forget about eye protection. Sunglasses are one of the most important pieces of equipment for sun protection and can work wonders in protecting your eyes from developing certain eye diseases down the line.
Ideally, you should be wearing sunglasses that block 99 – 100% of UVA and UVB rays.
Make sure to check for this on the label before buying a new pair of glasses!
While many visit Florida play in the sunshine, improper practice could make an otherwise enjoyable vacation very miserable.
