Across the country and across the world, communities pride themselves on special holiday traditions. Florida is no different. Here in The Sunshine State, we have plenty of uniquely Floridian customs and celebrations to look forward to each holiday season. Of all of them, our festive staff at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina is especially excited for the boat parades that illuminate the Gulf Coast in late December. Many communities host their own lighted boat parades over the course of the holiday season. What follows are some of our favorites.
For Early Holiday Hype – Dunedin
30 minutes north of Treasure Island is the quaint and beautiful coastal town of Dunedin, Florida, and if you are hoping to get into the holiday spirit early look no further. Grab a spot at Weaver Park or along Bayshore Boulevard or Edgewater Drive by 7pm on December 1st to watch the parade of lighted boats usher Santa Claus into town for the city’s Christmas tree lighting. As you may imagine, holiday music and treats will accompany this fun and festive evening.
For a Complete Celebration – Redington Beach and Indian Shores
Just seven minutes up the coast from your accommodations at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina is one of the most fun Christmas boat parades around. On December 16th, visit Redington Beach and Indian Shores by 6pm to witness some of the merriest vessels on the water. Awards and prizes will be given out at Caddy’s Pub following the parade in an event that is perhaps more fun than the parade itself!
For the Largest and Closest –Treasure Island
What can we say? Here on Treasure Island we take our holidays seriously. As such, it should come as no surprise that our lighted boat parade is the biggest in the Tampa Bay area. Starting at 6:20pm and cruising much of the Treasure Island waterways, this parade is a great way to begin building the excitement when Christmas is only two weeks away. If you happen to be staying with Treasure Bay Resort and Marina on December 14th, you’ll have the best seat in the house!
One of the most fun reasons to travel over the holidays is to experience the different traditions and customs of local communities. If you find yourself in the Sunshine State this holiday season, do yourself a favor and partake in some of these uniquely Floridian festivities! The lighted boat parades of the Gulf Coast are some of our favorites, but check with our merry staff at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina upon your arrival for even more recommendations.
