Just because the holiday season is coming to a close doesn’t mean Florida stops celebrating. In fact, it seems like no matter the time of year, Treasure Bay Resort and Marina and the surrounding area always have something fun to celebrate. Our festive attitude and non-stop fun is a major reason why so many people visit the Sunshine State each year and, while the winter months are generally a little slower than other times of the year, there are still plenty of things to get excited about. If you happen to be visiting us at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina this January, check out these three unique events happening in the local area. Of course, relaxing on the beach and enjoying the warmth and sunshine can be considered an event in and of itself!

The Outback Bowl

For sports fans, there are few times of the year more exciting than college football’s bowl season. Lucky for you, Tampa will once again host The Outback Bowl just up the road from your accommodations at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina. While the game itself (this year being played between Mississippi State and Iowa) is certainly worth attending, the surrounding events leading up to it are just as fun. Parties, celebrations, tailgate events, and activities for the entire family surround the January 1st Outback Bowl battle. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to check it out!

Tarpon Springs Epiphany Celebration

Whether you are a practicing Christian or not, the Tarpon Springs Epiphany celebration just a short way from Treasure Island, Florida is worth exploring. This January 6th holiday honoring the baptism of Jesus Christ is a century’s old tradition, and the daylong affair boasts activities for the entire family. The highlight each year occurs when the local archbishop throws a cross into Spring Bayou and local teenagers all dive in to look for it, hoping to receive good luck for the following year. Epiphany Glendi follows – a fun get together with food, drinks, and live music.

MLK National Parade and Family Fun Day

St. Petersburg plays host to the country’s longest-running parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and it is certainly a sight to behold. Today, the event includes a parade and subsequent Family Fun Day full of festivities all aimed at celebrating the Civil Rights leader and humankind as a whole. If you happen to be in the area during MLK Weekend (January 19th – 21st) do not miss this one of a kind event.
