Most people book Treasure Island hotels in March because they are sick of the cold winter in their part of the world. While that is reason enough to visit, spring on Treasure Island has plenty more to offer than hot sunny weather and pristine beaches. By checking into Treasure Bay Resort and Marina in the middle of March, you may be leaving behind your favorite St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. But have no fear! The Caribbean Coast of Florida boasts plenty of celebrations to help you channel your inner Irish spirit. Here are a couple of our favorites.
Leave one of the Treasure Island Hotels and head North to this Coast’s Biggest St. Patrick’s Celebration
While it is easy to get comfortable and never want to leave your Treasure Island hotels, here at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina, we would encourage you to take a short drive north on March 17th to participate in the area’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The small town of Dunedin, FL, just north of Clearwater, plays host to a classic St. Patrick’s Day festival complete with live music, dancers, delicious Irish fare, and more Guiness and green beer than anyone could drink. The festivities run from noon to midnight, so you have the freedom to take part all day or just stop by for a pint or two!
An Irish Themed Party for the Ages in Clearwater
Just thirty minutes north of Treasure Bay Resort and Marina is O’Keefe’s Tavern – host of Clearwater’s top St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Music and activities commence on Thursday March 16th at 4pm and will go into the wee hours of Saturday morning. Much like the celebration in Dunedin, O’Keefe’s tent party boasts live music, arts and crafts vendors, typical Irish food, and hundreds of revelers all donning their finest green attire. If you are searching for an Irish celebration near your lodging at Treasure Bay, look no further than O’Keefe’s Tavern in Clearwater!
A Family Friendly St. Patrick’s Alternative up the Road from Treasure Bay
The small seaside community of Madeira Beach lays a measly 2.5 miles up the coast from Treasure Bay Resort and Marina, and the community will be hosting their annual Spring Break Waterfront Festival and Carnival from March 16th – March 19th. While it falls on St. Patrick’s weekend, this festival is admittedly more family friendly than the aforementioned celebrations. The festival grounds will be buzzing from Thursday through Sunday with carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, delicious food, and live entertainment. Given the proximity of Madeira Beach to your Treasure Island hotels, a quick stopover to the Spring Break Waterfront Festival is an absolute must.
March is the perfect time to visit coastal Florida to escape from your wintery blues. While soaking up the sun and lounging on the beach may be the initial draw to the area, you will quickly get sucked into the culture and charm that make Treasure Island and the surrounding communities so special. If you happen to be visiting us during St. Patrick’s Day, be sure to bring your finest green swimsuit and explore one (or more) of the above celebrations!
