We love the holiday season here at Treasure Bay Resort and Marina – one of the top Treasure Island hotels – and always look forward to the special festivities that accompany this time of year. Keep reading to learn more about some of our favorite local celebrations near many of the most popular hotels in Treasure Island, Florida.
Attend a Hurricane Irma Benefit Bash
Many people are leery to visit a destination that was recently hit by a natural disaster, but actually Treasure Bay Resort and Marina, as well as most hotels in Treasure Island, Florida, fared very well. Because tourism is one of the state’s top industries, one of the best things you can do to help Florida is to simply visit! If that doesn’t seem like enough, consider heading over to St. Petersburg from your Treasure Island hotels and attending a free hurricane relief concert on the night before Thanksgiving. Dance the night away, donate what you feel is appropriate but, most importantly, just help Florida celebrate the incoming holiday season!
Take Part in a Turkey Trot!
Before drowning yourself in mashed potatoes and gravy and slipping into a tryptophan-induced slumber, wake-up, stretch, and take part in one of the area’s famed Turkey Trots. Each year, the Tampa Bay Times hosts a 1 mile, 5k, and 10k race with all proceeds going to local charities – providing a fun and worthwhile start to your Thanksgiving. St. Petersburg, a short twenty-minute drive from many hotels in Treasure Island Florida, also hosts a free, no stress Turkey Trot aimed at getting the community out and moving before the real festivities begin. Either option provides you a great opportunity to get out with the family and see a little bit more of what The Sunshine State has to offer.
Visit the 27th Annual Thanksgiving Art and Craft Festival
If you are turned off by the mass crowds and oft frivolous spending of Black Friday, or perhaps looking for a Christmas gift with a little more charm then what you will find at the big box stores, look no further than the Tarpon Springs Art and Craft Festival. Held less than an hour north of your Treasure Island beach hotels, this market is a local favorite each year and showcases some of the area’s best artists and crafters. It will be held November 25th and 26th, so you will have plenty of time to digest that big Thanksgiving meal before exploring this special festival.
Thanksgiving weekend is the perfect time reserve a room in Treasure Island beach hotels. The busy summer crowds have slowed down, and you can soak up some excess Vitamin D in preparation for the winter ahead. Of course, while you are down here, there is no need to give up some of your favorite holiday festivities. From markets and concerts to Turkey Trots and football, celebrating the holidays in Florida won’t be all that different than back home – just perhaps a little bit warmer!
