Run in a Beach Race (and enjoy the after party)!
The final race of the 2017 Beach Race Series will take place August 18th at 7pm on St. Pete Beach. These scenic 5K race is run entirely on the oceanfront sand, and is the largest beach race in the area. Whether you are running it in yourself, cheering on a friend, or just enjoying the spectacle, head to The Hurricane afterwards for the after party. Participants are awarded with a free buffet, live music, drinks, and the perfect spot to watch another spectacular Florida sunset!
Help Celebrate the 100th Birthday of St. Petersburg’s Morean Arts Center
The Morean Arts Center is the oldest arts organization in this part of Florida and for years has provided a wonderful cultural addition to the area. On August 19th, you can help celebrate by participating in the 7th Annual Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest. The aim of the contest is to find the best cupcake in St. Petersburg! Entry is only five dollars, and the contest will be held from 12 – 3pm at the Morean Center for Clay. This is a must-do for those with a sweet tooth!
Channel your Inner Hippie at Gulfport’s Gecko Ball
Just a short ways up the coast from Treasure Island and many of the best beach resorts in Florida is the small town of Gulfport – home to the 9th Annual Gecko Ball. This year’s theme is “Geckostock” – encouraging participants to embrace their inner flower child and other flashbacks of 1960s. Held at the historic waterfront Gulfport Casino Ballroom, Geckostock is sure to be a night full of fun, laughter, good food, great music, and a healthy dose of 1960s nostalgia. The ball is just a small part of the larger Geckofest that takes Gulfport by storm at the end of each summer. If you’re interested in attending the ball, buy your tickets soon!
